Club History

THWAC is now 8 years old having been created on 24th November 2001. Previously we had shot as the Ticehurst House Archery Club and had met in the grounds of the nursing home in Ticehurst for 12 years after the club had been set up by a small group from the Friars Gate Archery Club. However a management change in the nursing home resulted in us being asked to move. We found a new venue in Burwash and renamed ourselves THWAC so that we would not be tied to any partcular location in case we were required to move again. We shot for a further four years in Burwash enjoying access to both indoor and outdoor facilities every Thursday and Sunday. However, at the start of the club's fifth year we decided to move again to a new purpose built venue just outside of Hurst Green. Here we are able to shoot indoors and outdoors any day of the week, and a longer indoor range allows us to shoot distances not previously possible. Our new clubhouse is also a bonus on cold winter nights!

What do we shoot?

Mainly, the club shoots at targets over various distances (from 20 yards to 100 yards). At weekends club members represent the club at tournaments over the South East and new members are encouraged to join in as soon as the feel confident. In the past the club has also held clout shoots where archers shoot at pegs on the ground at a distance of 120/180 yards and hope their arrows land within a certain distance of the peg! We have also shot field shoots in woodland at Hadlow Down where we erected targets representing animals. The aim is to shoot from a marked distance at scored 'killing zones' on the target.
